Catastrophic Injuries

Permanent Disability

Some injuries are so devastating that they cause permanent and life-altering changes to the victim and are called catastrophic. These injuries include the following:

  • Spinal cord injuries

  • Third-degree burns

  • Brain damage

  • Permanent neck and back injuries

  • Organ damage

Catastrophic injuries require the attention of a lawyer who is trained and experienced in the unique issues affecting victims of these types of injuries. With the guidance of a personal injury professional, you can be assured that your concerns will be addressed and that you will appropriately compensated for the substantial damages these injuries commonly sustain.

Types of Severe Injuries

Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury can cause partial or total paralysis. Paraplegia affects the lower extremities, making it difficult or impossible for the victim to walk or to control bowel or bladder function. Quadriplegia causes partial or total paralysis of all limbs.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

TBI can be caused by blunt force to the head or even by less dramatic blows in which symptoms may not be evident for months., but which affect the brain’s function. The wound may be closed or penetrating. Common symptoms include memory loss, blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, seizures, nausea, personality changes, and cognitive changes that may become permanent.

Crush Injuries/Amputation

A limb subject to a great enough force such as a heavy falling object, or which is cut by a sharp tool or sheared-off object, may be great enough to require amputation. Amputees must undergo extensive occupational therapy to relearn how to perform daily living activities without their limb or limbs.

Burns/Disfigurement

FIre, chemicals and electrocution can cause painful injuries and permanent disfigurement. Burns are classified by how deep they penetrate into the layers of the skin with the deepest burns being the most debilitating. Some burns may require limb amputation if severe enough.

Defective Products

Millions of different products are sold each year and companies collect billions in profits. Unfortunately, thousands of defective products are reported to state and federal agencies with many seriously injuring consumers. Manufacturers and product designers have a legal and moral obligation to make sure their products are safely made and any possible complications or unsafe uses fully disclosed to consumers. When these companies knowingly and negligently sell defective products that injure or kill innocent consumers, they can be held liable for damages.
